POSITION OVERVIEW

Position title: Water Evaluation Project Manager

Salary range: $53,300 to $65,237, salary commensurate with qualifications and experience (see rank qualifications).

Percent time: Full-time (100%)

Anticipated start: July 1, 2021.

Position duration: Appointment will be through June 30, 2022.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Division of Social Sciences' Institute for Social Transformation at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the position of Water Evaluation Project Manager. Under the direction of Professor Brent Haddad, the project manager will coordinate and support the activities of an expert panel that will evaluate proposals for the long-term restoration and management of the Salton Sea. The proposals include engineering, environmental, economic, and social-impact elements, all of which will be evaluated. The project manager will coordinate information flows among the expert panel, UCSC-based researchers, subcontracted researchers, representatives with the state Department of Water Resources and California Natural Resources Agency, companies and individuals with proposed restoration projects, and the public. Additionally, the project manager will help the panel through its deliberations (e.g., coordinating the response to requests for additional analyses from the research support team) to arrive at a completed final report with analysis and recommendations on its preferred approach for long-term restoration and management of the Salton Sea. The project manager will identify and seek to resolve delays in the project, while reporting regularly to Professor Haddad. The project manager will also support Professor Haddad in preparing required reports, planning field studies, and managing public information on the website.

Applicants with expertise in water systems engineering and management via a degree in engineering, hydrology, environmental science, or related field (or achieved through relevant work experience) are strongly encouraged to apply. Other preferred skills include project coordination, experience with communicating with multiple audiences, familiarity with Spanish, and knowledge of the Salton Sea and northern Sea of Cortez regions.

The successful applicant would have the option of working either in Santa Cruz or in the Salton Sea region.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent degree) or a baccalaureate degree (or foreign equivalent degree) in engineering, hydrology, environmental science, or a related field. Applicants with only a baccalaureate degree must also possess a minimum of two years post-baccalaureate experience demonstrating expertise in engineering, hydrology, or related field.
