Summary

We have created an excellent opportunity for a Wastewater Risk Scientist to join our team. Youn will support wastewater operations during our risk transformation programme and be responsible for ensuring that risks to compliance and the environment are effectively and efficiently managed.

If you’re eager to find a role where you can fully utilise your knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, sewerage activities and environmental regulations, then this would be a great position for you!

What will I be doing?

We’re currently transforming our systems, data and processes to improve our risk management capabilities. You’ll play a key role in supporting this programme through data cleansing, user acceptance testing and training. This is a great opportunity to shape how we manage risk at Wessex Water.

Joining as our Wastewater Risk Scientist, your role will see you collaboratively working with operational colleagues, where you’ll be the primary point of contact for risk management across wastewater activities (trade effluent, sewerage, water recycling and bioresources).

You’ll regularly review risks to ensure they are all consistent, accurately recorded and representative to enable targeting of capital and/or operational strategies to appropriately manage risks.

Assurance of our risk position is fundamental to our process. You will take a key role in assessing the effectiveness of our controls and identifying areas of improvement.

In addition to the above, you’ll collate proposed changes to the system, data and/or methodology on behalf of wastewater operations and represent wastewater operations at the ‘Change Board’.

What are the requirements?

To really flourish in this position, we are looking for someone who is degree qualified in a relevant scientific discipline (or equivalent experience) and has sound knowledge of treatment processes, sewerage activities, environmental regulations and industry best practice. Risk management knowledge or experience would be beneficial but not essential.

Desirably, you’ll hold, or be working towards, Corporate Membership of a Professional body (eg, CIWEM, IW) at registered (eg, RSci, REnv) or chartered status (eg, CSci, CEnv).

Due to the nature of this role having a large focus on analysing data and reporting, you’ll possess excellent analytical, investigation and report writing skills.

Equal to the above experience, you’ll need to possess exceptional interpersonal and good communication skills, as you’ll regularly be engaging with a wealth of skilled professionals throughout the business.
