Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), duty station Bor. The Water and Sanitation Technician at this level usually reports to a more senior technician or to the Unit/Section Chief and is responsible for plumbing works associated with water and sanitation facilities.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Water and Sanitation Technician will be responsible for the following duties:

•Leads a team of assigned staff.
•Installs, operates, maintains, services and repairs sanitation facilities such as: ablution units, bathrooms and toilets, laundries and kitchen water and waste water systems.
•Installs and maintains plumbing and pipe work.
•Carries out scheduled maintenance on all the installations and equipment related to above.
•Performs emergency works and repairs of all above.
•Prepares reports of field activities pertaining to inspection, service and repair works
•Organizes materials and tools for assigned team.
•Initiates work orders as and when required.
•Coordinates works as necessary with engineering counterparts in specialized technical areas.
•Performs other duties as and when required, including emergency call-out and standby duties.

Work implies frequent interaction with the following:
Staff members in the work unit and section.
Civilian and military personnel throughout the Mission.
Contractors and suppliers executing projects.

Results Expected:
Ability to work hands-on. Completion of water and sanitation installation, maintenance and repair works in accordance with technical specifications and a cost-effective and timely manner. Water and sanitation and routine or preventive maintenance projects progress in accordance with planned schedules. Site safety procedures are known for the performance of assigned duties.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Technical or vocational certificate in water and santiation is required.

Work Experience

A minimum of six (06) years of relevant experience in the field of Water and Sanitation and/or plumbing works is required.
Experience in operating, maintenance and repair of water/wastewater treatment equipment/installation is desirable
Experience in international operations in a post conflict environment is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.

Assessment
