The Department of Water, Atmosphere and Environment, Institute of Sanitary Engineering and Water Pollution Control is currently seeking a Postgraduate Research Associate (PhD position).

We are searching for a postgraduate student from engineering or natural science with knowledge and experience in design and modelling of urban drainage systems.

The main task is to work as PhD student together with PhD students from Graz and Innsbruck as an enthusiastic team player within the national research project BEJOND. The results Ave to be presented at national and international conferences and published in high ranked SCI journals and submitted as a cumulative PhD thesis. For the official project language the candidate needs very good language skills in German as well. Within the project activities students have to be supervised in different possible ways (incl. master thesis). The candidate may be active as lecturer as well.

The candidate should preferably possess additional knowledge and experiences in the following fields connected to urban drainage as these are research tasks within the project BEJOND:

  • storm water hydrology and management
  • rehabilitation strategies and risk management
  • multi-criteria decision support
  • communication strategies and stakeholder participation
  • systems analysis for failure mechanisms
  • risk management and resilience assessment considering climate change and spatial structures
  • coupled 1D/2D modelling of urban and rural drainage systems

Gross monthly salary and pay grade in terms of collective agreement for university staff (payable 14 times per year): B1, € 2.196,80
