Job description

As an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations, the federally-owned Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its development-policy objectives.

The Water and Sanitation Sector Programme – ProSecEau started its activities in Burundi in 2007. The current aim of the bilateral programme is to improve access and provision of hygienically safe drinking water to poor households in rural and urban areas of Burundi. ProSecEau currently comprises three fields of action: (1) Protection of water resources and improvement of water quality at household level (2) Support the commercial, financial and technical performances of the urban water and electricity service provider (3) Improvement of the rural drinking water supply facilities operation.

The Sector Network “Services on Water and Sanitation in Sub-Sahara Africa” - SOWAS is a regional-technical platform for German Development Cooperation (GDC) projects in the water sector in the sub-Saharan Africa region. The network comprises 21 bilateral, regional and continental projects in: Ethiopia, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Kenya, Congo, Mali, Namibia, Niger, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Sudan, Tanzania, Chad and Uganda. Among other things, the member projects deal with water supply, sanitation, transboundary water resources management and sector reform. SOWAS has currently 3 working groups (1) Upscaling Access to Water and Sanitation, (2) Transboundary Water Resources Management, (3) Strategy Think Thank, which are used for technical exchange and collaboration across SOWAS member projects.

PROSECEAU and SOWAS are currently looking for an intern in the field of Water and Sanitation to support the PROSECEAU and the other programmes of Burundi with knowledge capitalization and assist SOWAS and its Working Groups with organizational matters and content management.

Your tasks

  • As an intern at GIZ, your main focus during your internship will be on:
     
    Collecting and filing relevant activity documentation of PROSECEAU in the DMS (Dokumenten-Management-System) with prior approval from the team
  • Supporting the preparations and drafting of publications, manuals, and other information material (in French and/or English) for the capitalization of PROSECEAU experience
  • Supporting the visibility strategy of PROSECEAU
  • Assisting the intern from the Fund for Social Cohesion Programme of Burundi (based in Germanny) in showcasing the GIZ projects of Burundi in IDA (Integrierten Digitalen Anwendungen)
  • Contributing to any other task assigned by your supervisors
     
     
  • Collecting and filing relevant activity documentation in the SOWAS databases
  • Supporting the knowledge management system of SOWAS
  • Helping in improving and feeding the Wash@Scale Wiki platform of the Upscaling Working Group
  • Assisting in the organization of SOWAS virtual meetings and workshops (including the SOWAS regional conference)
  • Contributing to any other task assigned by your supervisors

Your profile

  • At least 3 years of university studies in Environmental Sciences and/or Communication and related (journalism, etc.). A Master's degree in one of these fields will be considered as a serious asset
  • Interest in Knowledge Management
  • High affinity for working with IT and databases: excellent knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Excellent intercultural communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal instruction and good organisational and planning skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken French and English; German is an asset
  • Previous experience in international aid and/or development work preferred
  • Living/working experience in African countries preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and ability to motivate and engage others

 We pay a monthly stipend of €1.608,- (gross).
