The aim of the research fellows is to organize methods for the estimation of rainwater drained into storm drains and sewerage systems connected to the Fondo Verde Sewage Treatment plant, with the aim of quantifying the surface runoff volumes and the volumes collected by the aforementioned infrastructures of the Integrated Urban Drainage System (IUDS). On the basis of the results obtained, alternative routes to connect the Fondo Verde Sewage Treatment plant with the sewerage systems serving the Passo di Rigano drainage basin in the city of Palermo, will be then defined and compared. In addition, research fellows will define the volumetric water balance in the sewerage systems, starting from the water supply distributed by the aqueduct system. Guidelines for the design of monitoring networks, aimed at identifying possible sources of “parasite flows” (susceptibility maps) and mitigation strategies for the infiltration process, will be defined.
