Your Opportunity

The Water Practice Leader provides leadership in the execution and delivery of technically complex water treatment projects from concept through construction, as well as, working with business development leaders in identifying, developing, pursuing and winning opportunities with new and existing clients to grow our business. The expectation is for this candidate to focus on the water treatment practice; however, they may be asked to lead or support wastewater treatment or other types of municipal water/wastewater projects on an as needed basis. The initial geographical area of focus for this candidate will be in the State of Texas with moderate support in the US South Region. As Texas gets more established in the marketplace the candidate’s focus will continue to expand into other Southeast states. The successful candidate will be someone with strong leadership and communication skills, market knowledge, successful history of client relations and business acumen.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership and Project Delivery
  • Provide high level project management, leadership, and delivery oversight for on-going drinking water projects in Texas and the US South Region as required
  • Prepare scopes of work, budgets, and schedules for projects
  • Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of engineering work
  • Maintain and enhance our reputation with clients, approval agencies and industry professionals as an outstanding service provider
  • Maintain consistently high standards of delivery, quality, flexibility, and innovation
  • Work in a manner to protect the health and safety of Stantec employees, clients and the public by following company health, safety and security guidelines and policies
  • Lead people by coaching and mentoring to achieve business and performance goals
  • Marketing & Business Development
  • Provide technical leadership on strategic pursuits and be an active Account Team member for key clients in Texas; and communicate with leaders on regional business development strategies across the US South
  • Leadership and involvement in related professional societies, including preparation and presentation of papers at regional and national technical conferences and seminars, and key committee participation where available and appropriate
  • Sustain and grow revenue within the Water practice to achieve top line growth
  • Develop long-lasting partnerships with our clients and understand our clients’ needs to facilitate full-service offerings
  • Coordinate with Stantec leadership and client contacts routinely to explore future opportunities, budget planning, and staff resourcing needs
  • Lead and participate in campaign planning and pursuit strategies including client “brown-bag” presentations, pursuit “GO/NO GO” decisions, and proposal development and interviews
  • Engage in active recruitment to build the Practice
  • Provide market sector content and thought leadership material to corporate communications related to key projects and emerging technology

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong business development skills with an entrepreneurial orientation, including experience developing and maintaining productive relationships with clients
  • Demonstrated business development success in responding to Requests for Qualifications and Requests for Proposals for water projects
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex water infrastructure projects with an emphasis on technical and project delivery excellence
  • Familiarity with state and federal guidance and regulations
  • Demonstrated experience with preparation of water treatment design plans and specifications for bidding and construction purposes
  • Ability to lead project teams, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate ideas, design issues and solutions to others
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to conduct effective client and agency presentations and written technical report preparation, as well as effective skills working in diverse team environments with staff, clients, and stakeholders
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Project)

Education and Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with at least 15 years of professional experience in complex water projects and other related areas; Master’s Degree a plus
  • Licensed Professional Engineer required. Existing Texas PE or ability to obtain a Texas PE within six months of hire required, with ability to obtain reciprocity in multiple states
  • Market knowledge in Texas and demonstrated understanding of water infrastructure projects
