Postdoc on Research for Sustainable Management of Water
Employment is initially for 3 years; maximum extension is possible until the end of October 2026. The salary is according to the civil service pay TV-L E13 (100%).

We are looking for a dedicated scientist to actively contribute to the interdisciplinary research program of the work group “Environmental Systems Analysis” (http://www.geo.uni-tuebingen.de/arbeitsgruppen/angewandte-geowissenschaften/forschungsbereich/ umweltsystemanalyse/arbeitsgruppe.html) in the frame of the Platform “Environmental Systems” and in strong cooperation with the Competence Centre for Sustainable Development (https://uni-tuebingen.de/en/48701) that was recently awarded as an exemplary education initiative by the German UNESCO Commission.
The candidate’s research area in sustainability should be integrated into and complement with the current research activities of the work group with special emphasize on multiple stressors on surface water ecosystems (e.g. pollution, infrastructure development, land-use change). Ideally, this expertise would be combined with socio-economic and ethical interests, e.g. on human health and well-being, inequality, intergenerational justice. Expertise in mathematical modelling is required, and a strong background in analysing environmental processes with appropriate software tools (e.g. Matlab, R, ArcGIS) is an advantage. Expertise in experimental laboratory and/or field research is welcome.
She/He will greatly profit from the well-established links to leading research institutions and international partners, e.g. within the network of the Global Dam Watch initiative (www.globaldamwatch.org) as well as the fruitful collaboration with core international organizations (e.g. IUCN, WWF, TNC).
A doctoral degree and a distinguished record in research are required. Educational skills are desired since the successful candidate is expected to teach courses in the B.Sc. and M.Sc. programmes of the Department of Geosciences as well as in the program Studium Oecologicum at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. The acquisition of third-party funds and (co-)supervision of graduate students will be welcome and supported.
