The successful applicant will develop an extramurally funded, innovative research program at the frontier of rapidly advancing theory, methodology, tools and technologies involved in watershed hydrology (e.g., sensors/automated monitoring, quantitative data analysis and modeling, and GIS/remote sensing-based landscape modeling). We are seeking applicants with demonstrated interest in using hydrologic science to inform environmental decision making and natural resource conservation in built, agricultural, or natural landscapes. The successful applicant will complement the existing expertise of colleagues within and outside the Department, including nearby offices of the United States Geological Survey, such as the New England Water Science Center ( and the Branch of Geophysics (

Responsibilities also include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, such as watershed hydrology, introduction to water resources, and natural resources measurements. Other duties include advising undergraduate and graduate students, and active contribution to the academic community through service at the department, college, and University levels.


A doctoral degree at the time of appointment in hydrology, natural resources, environmental sciences, or related discipline; equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable. A demonstrated ability to perform quantitative hydrologic science that integrates field-based environmental data acquisition with analysis and modeling; excellent oral and written communication skills; experience in teaching or assisting in teaching at the university level; and a record of peer-reviewed publication of original research.


Post-doctoral experience; experience with independent research proposal development, ideally with a record of funding from national agencies. A demonstrated ability to carry out independent research; an innovative, collaborative, and multidisciplinary research approach; active participation in major professional societies and international meetings; a record of effective mentoring and teaching, such as integrating technology and active learning into instruction, and online instruction; and a record of commitment to promoting diversity through academic, extension, and research activities.


This is a full-time 9-month, tenure-track, research (50%) and teaching (50%) position at the Assistant Professor level, with service expectations. The successful candidate will work at the University of Connecticut’s main campus located in Storrs. Anticipated start date is August 23, 2020. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
