Senior Water Quality Specialist

Watershed Consulting is seeking a full-time Senior Water Quality Specialist for our busy Burlington, Vermont office. The Senior Water Quality Specialist will oversee watershed initiatives related to stormwater planning, design and research. This position will support our water quality services consulting for municipal, state and federal governmental agencies and private/non-profit sector clients.


  • Manage stormwater master planning studies
  • Manage stormwater retrofit design projects
  • Prepare grant applications and respond to request for proposals for water quality initiatives
  • Interface with grant managers, team members, partners, and clients to develop and maintain project schedules and to execute deliverables
  • Conduct research on water quality and hydrology in the urban, rural, and agricultural landscape
  • Assist in the collection of water quality data and complete other water resource measurements in the field
  • Present findings at local and national water quality conferences

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Physical Geography, Geographic Information Systems, or related field from an accredited institution
  • 3+ years of professional water resources experience
  • Understanding of general concepts related to hydrology, hydraulics, water quality, water resources planning, and environmental statistics
  • Excellent computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, and geographic information systems
  • Familiarity with Vermont regulatory framework and grant programs related to water quality
