The Waymo Environment, Health and Safety team works to promote and ensure the safety of Waymo’s fully self-driving vehicles, our employees and the environment. Our experts develop EHS goals and strategies, and conduct safety engineering analyses to ensure safety is being considered throughout the design and development of our vehicles. The team develops and promotes EHS strategies and policies for our company and its work with regulatory authorities, lawmakers, law enforcement and public and non-profit organizations. Our EHS Team also helps to ensure Waymo is complying with applicable environmental, health and safety regulations.

 In this Environment and Sustainability Manager role, you'll:

  • Develop and implement Waymo’s sustainability strategies and programs to minimize Waymo's environmental impact and meet or exceed sustainability goals
  • Develop and implement an environmental management system including policies and procedures that help drive environmentally responsible behavior and ensure compliance with applicable regulations
  • Manage a portfolio of strategic waste-related initiatives and projects.  Track and analyze progress, identify gaps, and propose solutions to improve intended results.  Communicate plans, formulate budgets and market your green strategies to vendors, customers and colleagues
  • Develop, coordinate and conduct environmental and sustainability training and ensure compliance with all relevant requirements and serve as Waymo’s internal and external expert on sustainable waste management practices
  • Provide environmental input during tenant improvements and construction projects including regulatory permits and design considerations. Interface and coordinate with appropriate regulatory personnel for addressing regulatory requirements.Coordinate environmental assessments of property acquisitions
  • Maintain environmental logs and manifest for waste and hazwaste in accordance with local, state and federal requirements.  Maintain Waymo’s EPA regulatory compliance
  • Contribute to and support the overall EHS program at Waymo, providing input to safety and industrial health and hygiene programs

At a minimum we'd like you to have: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related fields
  • Experience in managing an environmental program company-wide
  • Experience with EPA regulations for facilities and employees
  • Experience training personnel in Environmental subjects
  • Experience managing personnel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

It’s preferred if you have: 

  • LEED-AP Certification
  • ISO 14001 certification and audit experience
  • BREEAM certification
  • Experience dealing with Lab hazwaste, lithium ion batteries and other environmental aspects of garage and vehicle operations
  • Experience managing environmental programs in transportation sector working under a safety/environmental management system
  • Knowledgeable in the compliance requirements of the pertinent codes, regulations and standards. Experience with EPA
  • Excellent communication, organizational, time-management and multitasking skills
  • Experience and familiarity with the development and implementation of various Environmental programs
  • Experience with Circular Economy Principles
  • Experience with design, construction, and building operations
