The Role

Reporting to the Manager, Integrated Water Management (IWM) Sub-catchment Planning, the Senior Planner role will undertake the modelling and water balance calculations to support scenario development and evaluations required for development of long term growth servicing strategies incorporating an Integrated Water Resources management approach.

 

How we go about designing is as important as what we design.  Therefore, we’re looking for a Senior Planner who can actively seek out and understand diverse objectives from our key internal and external stakeholders and come up with innovative solutions that not only deliver on our servicing obligations but also identify opportunities for generating additional benefits.

 

The focus of this role will be to investigate new water systems within YVW’s service area that meet both the needs of developers, the community and key stakeholders including Councils, Melbourne Water and Traditional Owners: balancing community cost with optimised outcomes. The Senior Planner will also be responsible for developing the skills of other staff in the team – providing continuity of service while supporting Yarra Valley Water’s rotation program.

 

Focus areas will include;

  • Working with the Manager towards collaborative approaches with internal and external stakeholders to incorporate diverse perspectives into IWM Planning considerations.
  • Working with the Manager towards identification, development and delivery of programs that lead to improvement in customer service levels and business efficiency and reduce corporate risks. 
  • Supporting staff development through mentoring of IWM principles and processes. 
  • Participating as an effective member of the Place-based Partnerships division and contributing to corporate direction and purpose.
  • Represents YVW at industry forums and positions us as leaders in the field of IWM
  • Developing and achieving Integrated Water Resource management outcomes in collaboration with partner organisations
  • Communicating and building capacity for sub-catchment planning processes within Yarra Valley Water.
  • Participating as an effective member of the Place-based Partnerships division and contributing to corporate direction and purpose.
  • Actively develop and maintain effective partnerships within Yarra Valley Water and with external organisations.
  • Collaborating with and maintaining strong working relationships with internal stakeholders including (but not limited to) team members from Aboriginal Partnerships, Business Development, Urban Water Futures, Integrated Growth Delivery, Asset Planning.
  • Contributing to the safety, well-being and performance of staff

Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following;

  • Degree qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering or equivalent experience;
  • Demonstrated experience in Integrated Water Resources Management;
  • Awareness and experience navigating the complexities of Land Use Planning and Development;
  • Experience with construction of water infrastructure will be highly regarded;
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring staff;
  • Excellent written, verbal and negotiation skills and
  • A collaborative approach and ‘can do’ attitude.
