A fully funded graduate assistantship is available at Washington State University in Vancouver, WA, in Environmental Modeling and Remote Sensing Data Analytics or related topics of Urban Ecohydrology, Global Change, Environmental Biophysics/Ecophysiology, or Socio-environmental Sustainability and Equity.
Possible research themes include, but are not limited to: relations between the water cycle and the urban heat island, ecohydrology of the urban forest, vulnerability and resilience to extreme hydroclimate events such as drought and flood, green infrastructure, climate adaptation across diverse social norms and climate zones, remote sensing data-mining, outdoor environmental science education, and the basic natural science needed to support environmental justice. Specific thesis/dissertation foci will be determined collaboratively by the student and supervisor, Dr. Kevan Moffett.
Required preparation: Strong motivation to complete deep research toward a PhD in Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences or a thesis-based MS in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Sciences, or Geology. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. College-level calculus, physics, biology background and at least some time at an English-speaking institution of research or higher education.
Enrollment anticipated in August 2020 (January 2020 also potentially possible). Full funding of tuition, stipend, and benefits will be provided for sufficient time to complete the degree. Enrollment will be on the Washington State University Vancouver (WSUV) campus among the extremely productive, interdisciplinary, and collaborative natural science research cluster. Students will take up residence in Washington State, in or near Vancouver, a fantastic city located in SW Washington, between the coast and the Cascades mountains and just across the Columbia River from vibrant Portland, Oregon.
