Clean Water for North Carolina is a 35 year old progressive statewide Environmental Justice non-profit with a diverse Board of Directors and membership. We are looking for an organizer and researcher with excellent listening, writing and speaking skills, and ability to research and analyze policies, a significant science background (at least 20 hours of coursework), and a demonstrated commitment to social justice. The Organizer will connect and build capacity of communities facing environmental justice threats, particularly involving water and energy, as well as participating in outreach, advocacy and coalition-building in the western piedmont and mountains of NC.
Special focus is on coal ash impacted communities, safe and affordable water for vulnerable residents, and energy projects and rate hikes with disproportionate impacts on People of Color, Indigenous and low income communities. The Organizer will assist in drafting brief reports and media releases, as well as research and outreach on water privatization and contamination. Along with other Clean Water for NC staff members, the Organizer will also contribute regularly to our quarterly newsletter as well as daily administrative and outreach tasks in our team-oriented workplace!
Candidates considered for interviews must be currently located in NC (strongly preferred) or a neighboring state. You must have a current driver's license and access to a vehicle for visits to communities and attending meetings. Successful candidates will be able to attend occasional evening or weekend activities, and will be given compensatory time off. 3 or more years of related employment may be considered in lieu of degree requirement.
