Job Description and Duties

*** Have you completed course work in data driven research-related fields, such as economics, mathematics, psychology, sociology, demography, geography, anthropology, statistics, data science, or another research-related field?

*** Would you like to work with management and a team of multi-disciplinary staff to address California’s current and emerging water issues?

Look no further, apply with the State Water Resources Control Board today!

The Water Boards’ Office of Research, Planning and Performance is seeking a motivated individual to work as a Research Data Specialist III in Training and Technical Services. You will serve as the Water Boards’ economics expert, including:

  • Analyzing economic and policy issues of interest to the Water Boards, spanning all areas of water policy.
  • Providing specialized consultative services to Water Board Members and staff in support of development and implementation of the Boards’ programs.
  • Leading or assisting with assessment of the economic impacts of possible Board actions.

In addition to housing the economics program that supports Water Boards staff statewide, the Office of Research, Planning and Performance develops and implements policies in emerging and cross-cutting areas related to water in California. The Office’s portfolio currently includes climate change, safe and affordable drinking water, water conservation, groundwater use, and emergency response management.

Please note that you are highly encouraged to apply if you have experience conducting or applying academic research; we want your work here on both our novel and routine issues to reflect the best thinking. That said, you will NOT be regularly conducting original research for publication. (A better name for the Office might be the Office of Special Projects and Emerging Issues.)

The position is in the CalEPA Headquarters Building at 1001 I Street, Sacramento, CA, 95814. The building is two blocks from the light rail and public transportation; within walking distance of the State Capitol, parks, restaurants, farmers’ markets, and the Golden 1 Center Arena. It offers an onsite cafe, Golden 1 ATM, workout room, indoor bike storage, and daycare services. The building has easy access to I-5, Highway 50, and Highway 80.
