UK-Med recruits, trains and deploys surge teams in response to disasters and disease outbreaks. We are currently recruiting for globally mobile WASH Managers to join our outbreak response register.

As a member of UK-Med’s outbreak response register, you will be available to deploy as part of a multidisciplinary team comprising doctors, nurses, other health professionals (e.g. midwives, IPC, pharmacists, epidemiologists) and support roles (community engagement, laboratory, logistics, WASH/WATSAN, training, HR, finance). Deployments in a surge response will last 6 weeks. You may also have opportunities to deploy for 2-4 weeks for capacity building / national preparedness.

As a WASH Manager, you will be responsible for the management of the WASH activities and functions for UK-Med's Outbreak Response Team during deployment. You will manage multiple streams of work and will act as the technical resource to rapidly resolve any WASH challenges that may present, making sure that practical measures are actioned and implemented. You will also play a central role in building the local capacity of field staff (i.e. Ministry of Health or other NGOs) in areas related to the response, through training delivery to ensure that the appropriate WASH standards are maintained.

To apply, you must have either a degree (undergraduate or postgraduate) in water and sanitation engineering, civil engineering, public health or relevant technical WASH specialisation plus 2 years’ field experience or extensive field experience with designing, implementing and maintaining water and sanitation systems, hygiene promotion and vector control programs in health facilities and outbreak preparedness and/or response. You will also have experience in emergency water trucking, chlorination and water quality analysis and in construction and rehabilitation of WASH systems in low resource settings. Your strong communication skills, language skills, teamworking and cultural awareness will enable you to work well with patients, colleagues and others.
