About the Atlantic Water Network
Atlantic Water Network’s mission is to build capacity among stewardship and watershed organisations by providing access to water monitoring and conservation resources such as standardised training via WET-Pro YSI water monitoring kits, a secure and open access data hub (Atlantic DataStream), and the free use of our Environmental Monitoring Equipment Bank. All programs that are developed by AWN aim to meet the needs of our regional partners. As such there is ample opportunity for growth not only within existing programs but to develop new resources and projects in collaboration with community-partners.
Job Description & Responsibilities
This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing Atlantic Canadian initiative. The successful candidate will gain valuable hands-on experience, including training community water monitoring partners, assisting water monitoring programs, advanced data management, communications and more. This is a 1 year contract with possibility of renewal. The hired Coordinator will report to AWN’s Director.
In collaboration with AWN Director:
- Develop a plan for growing the Wet-Pro and DataStream water quality testing and data management programs
- Facilitate training to community partners throughout Atlantic Canada, including traveling to partner offices and monitoring sites to offer hands-on training to staff and volunteers on calibration techniques, data management and monitoring protocols;
- Manage AWN’s Equipment Bank program through coordinating loans throughout the field season, building relationships with partners, calibrating equipment, and organising pick-up and drop-offs throughout the season;
- Facilitate the onboarding of new partners to AWN and Atlantic DataStream;
- Occasionally representing AWN at water events across the Atlantic region- though rare these may take place in evenings and weekends;
- Participate in organisational development by writing and editing grant applications;
- Provide data management support to Network Partners
- Work with The Gordon Foundation’s Data Specialist to support Network partners in managing and uploading data to Atlantic DataStream
- Assist in the organisation of and help facilitate data related events such as AWN’s upcoming summer data management workshops;
- Assist in administrative tasks, including partner outreach and correspondence, website maintenance, and communications (mostly via social media and newsletters).
- Passion for the environment and water quality coupled with the desire to work for a non-profit;
- Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience
- Post secondary degree in related field
- Strong writing, editing and presentation skills;
- Understanding of water quality monitoring or research;
- Experience with Data Management and analysis;
- Excellent organisation, communication and problem-solving skills;
- Curious, self-motivated, and capable of building lasting relationships;
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently;
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons granted refugee status in Canada;
- Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations;
- Full driver’s license.
- Basic knowledge of water monitoring techniques, methodologies, and protocols is preferable but all required training will be provided;
- Experience with project implementation and management;
- Experience with planning and managing events, data management, and grant writing
- Sales or canvassing experience and asset;
- Proficient with MS Officer, Google Drive, and WordPress.
- Experience with storing, manipulating and translating data with Microsoft Excel, R or other analytical programs
