Participates in a wide variety of regulatory and non-regulatory water quality protection activities to assess and monitor the impact of proposed and existing land uses on the quality and quantity of water in the Edwards Aquifer.
Responsible for a wide variety of aquifer protection activities including coordinating and/or performing work activities related to regulatory programs; develops forms and guidelines; reviews applications, drafts permits, and correspondence; develops reports regarding protection of the Edwards Aquifer; assisting with the development of regulatory programs; contributes to the operation and maintenance of associated data files in the electronic data base system; coordinating efforts to monitor and evaluate various data sets for contamination incidents that may impact the Edwards Aquifer and recommending investigative or remedial actions; works with consultants, contractors, and other entities concerning assigned programs and analyzing procedures to monitor and measure progress made on programs; interfaces with other agencies on program matters; assists in the development of team budget; assists in the preparation of materials for committee and board meetings and assists in the development of conferences, workshops, and meetings regarding assigned programs; providing general and technical information to the public as requested; and performing other tasks as requested by the supervisor.
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, hydrology, civil engineering or closely related field plus three years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree plus one year relevant experience; experience with personal computers, word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications; strong research, analytical, technical, problem solving and investigative skills; knowledge of federal, state and local environmental regulations; effective oral, written and organizational skills; ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment and responsibility; a valid driver's license; and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Job performance may require: listening, seeing, sitting, talking, reaching, pulling or pushing; frequent lifting, balancing, carrying, grasping, handling of items and equipment weighting up to 50 pounds; occasional standing, stooping, bending, crawling and moderate to heavy walking in rough terrain requiring a high level of physical exertion; some irregular hours and long workdays and moderate levels of stress. Job may consist of up to 50% work in an office environment and 50% work outside that includes exposure to extremes in weather, rough terrain such as brush, rocks, and hills, and may also include exposure to hazards such as chemicals, insects, and snakes. Performance may also include work around construction sites, work along roadways, well drilling or other similar work sites.
